Controversy has always been MMFF-P Gabi Ng Parangal's tag team.
This season is the worst one I've had! I mean, look, I am a BIG- as big as my, well...- FAN of the MMFF and I don't believe the fact that I haven't seen a single entry for this year YET. Goodness. Ok, so last night the much awaited Gabi Ng Parangal took place and as expected, everyone was ranting about the outcome. Let me hook you up with a quick recap on the things that happened then.
THE WINNERS: "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo" is Star Cinema's comeback effort after Bautista's "Dekada '70" in 2002 that LOST big time to Monteverde's "Mano Po." Named 2006
Best Festival Director, Jose Javier Reyes created this film with the help of real-life sweethearts Judy Ann and Ryan. "KKK" also gave Judy Ann Santos her FIRST MMFF
Best Actress award plus these following tiltes-
Best Supporting Actress win for my favorite Miss Gina Pareño,
Best Screenplay,
Best Story,
Best Movie Theme for the radio hit
Hawak Kamay, the prestigious
Gat Puno Villegas Memorial Award and the
Quezon City Gender-Sensitive Award and not to forget it's
2nd Best Festival Picture award. Now the controversy begins here- the lady who accepted the 2nd Best Picture award said these words,
"Para sa amin, kami parin ang Best Picture..." and yes, the smell of black coffee was strong last night.
OctoArts and M-Zet's
"Enteng Kabisote 3" lost to Violett Films'
"Tatlong Baraha" for the
Best Visual Effects and
Best Make-Up awards BUT kicked asses as Bosing ran away with the
BEST Festival PICTURE award. And oh, guess who accepted the award... the lady bug, Angelica Jones. Crap! Well, it's not her fault people from Enteng went home already. I guess they were just hoping for the Visual Effect and Make-Up awards. Hehe. Unexpectedly they won a pot of gold. :)
Monteverde's
"Mano Po 5 (Gua Ai Di)" really needs some gas. I swear Mother, everyone is sick of Mano Po already. LOOK, I am a BIG Regal fan, I swear. Ate Renee once called me a "Regal baby" but look, Maricel (my ultimate favorite actress), Susan, Vilma and zsa Zsa are enough for these. Let's not make another Mano Po next year, shall we. Let's just do a, what? "Santiago," setting's in Chile or "Ulan Baatar" in Mongolia. That's hot. Hehe. But, hey, what do you know, Mano Po didn't leave the scene empty-handed last night, they bagged in the
Best Cinematography,
Best Sound Recording and
Best Musical Score awards. Great! I love you Mother!
Other winners include another Mother creation
"Shake, Rattle and Roll 8" winning
3rd Best Picture. Cesar Montano and another favorite of mine, Johnny Delgado who worked hand-in-hand for CM Films'
"Ligalig" both won
Best Actor and
Best Supporting Actor respectively. I forgot who got the Best Editing award. Oh,
Best Float went to "Tatlong Baraha," so 3 awards under Madamme Violett, eh?
I have yet to see Zaturnnah Ze Movie, Kasal, Kasali and Enteng. Oh, Ligalig and Super Noypi! :)
Happy New Year everyone and watch out for my Year-Ender Music Countdown :)
